Born and raised in Raleigh, NC, Justin graduated from East Carolina University in 2017 with a BFA in Theatre, focusing on Lighting Design and Stage Management, and was mentored by Erich R. Keil and Jeni Parker. While attending ECU, Justin spent his summers in the small town of Wooster, OH working at The Ohio Light Opera. During his five summer stint at OLO, Justin grew from an electrician learning the ropes, to becoming one of the festival season lighting designers. Upon finishing his last summer of OLO after graduation, Justin took up an internship opportunity at Playhouse on the Square as the Lighting Design Associate Company Member, designing shows at the Circuit Theatre, as well as being an electrician at the Playhouse main-stage shows. Eight months into the 10 month internship, Justin was promoted to the full-time staff position at POTS, being the Resident Lighting Designer/Master Electrician of the Playhouse stage, and becoming supervisor to the intern position.
Justin has had the wonderful opportunity of designing multiple different styles of shows including but not limited to:
Greek Tragedies (Medea, East Carolina University)
Comedies (Laughter on the 23rd Floor, Playhouse on the Square)
Rock Musicals (Heathers; The Musical, Circuit Playhouse)
Golden Age Musicals (The Music Man, Ohio Light Opera)
Contemporary Plays (The Flick, Circuit Playhouse)
Contemporary Musicals (Once, Playhouse on the Square)
Parodies of a Classic (Stupid F***ing Bird, Circuit Playhouse)
World Premieres: Play (All Saints in the Old Colony, POTS@TheWorks)
World Premieres: Musical (Velvet Over Steel, Phred Foundation)
Justin would like to thank all of his friends, family, and work family for all of their love and support throughout all of his endeavors. Without them, there's no way Justin would be where he is today, and is eternally grateful.
